Jet Mill

Jet Mill — sub-micron powders, no moving parts.

Compressed-air-driven particle-on-particle attrition produces 2–30 µm powders without contact wear. Ceramic-lined chambers and contamination-free milling for pharma APIs and high-value pigments.

01 / Overview

What it is.

The Jet Mill is THOR's sub-micron platform. Compressed air at 6–10 bar accelerates feed particles into a circular attrition chamber where they collide with each other — no rotor, no moving parts, no metal contamination of the powder.

02 / Working principle

How it works.

Multiple tangential air jets create a vortex inside the milling chamber. Feed entering the vortex is carried along, particles collide at supersonic velocity, and an integrated air classifier returns oversize for further milling. Output cuts are tunable by air pressure and classifier wheel speed.

03 / Specifications

Specs envelope.

Throughput 20 – 800 kg/h. Compressed-air demand 4 – 60 m³/min at 6 – 10 bar. Chamber sizes from 100 mm (lab) to 800 mm. Standard build SS316L; ceramic liner (ZrO₂) for friable APIs and abrasive ceramics.

04 / Applications

Where it earns its keep.

The Jet Mill is the platform of choice when contamination is unacceptable, particle size must reach the single-digit micron range, or the feed is heat-sensitive (compressed-air expansion cools the chamber).
